First Impressions:

-It’s been a busy three years since Swedish band The Concretes released its last album stateside. Lisa Milberg has replaced founding member Victoria Bergsman as the group's frontwoman and the band has signed with a new label, Friendly Fire. And on top of that, it has a new sound, to boot.

-The album begins with “Good Evening,” which shows a change from the band’s former indie-pop vibe. This is a darker, German influenced disco tune with a loungy vibe. Synths and bass are prominently featured throughout and Milberg’s vocals are on-point. “Good Evening” sets the tone for how the rest of the album sounds.

-“All Day” is an uptempo track that would fit in perfectly at any of the W Hotel’s swanky bars. The song has a loungy vibe meshed with an element of Euro-pop.

Key Tracks:

“My Ways,” “What We’ve Become,” “Oh My Love.”

Predictions:

The band’s brand of indie-pop takes a dark turn on this album. With heavier synth beats and a thumpier bass, though retaining simplistic melodies, The Concretes has evolved into the next phase of its career, which includes a new disco-influenced sound.
