If you thought Comic-Con was only for comic book nerds, you need to think again. This year’s convention brought together all corners of the entertainment industry, including the fine folks that create some of the coolest music-related gadgetry. In between finding out what was up with the new season of Dexter and getting a sneak peek of the new Zack Snyder film, we personally tested all the latest offerings. Here are a few of FILTER’s favorites that will help you get in touch with your inner audiophile.
Decorated by celebrated graphic designer Julie West, this cuter-than-a-cupcake limited edition Mugo MP3 player (http://www.mugoplayer.com) may just have to replace your Nano. Raindrop Girl’s face serves as the control panel, while her legs pops off so you can plug it into your USB port. It stores up to 2 GB of your favorite tunes. Or the sounds of you freaking out over how cool your new MP3 player is.
If you want to rock out your phone, laptop, or iPad and prove you’re a comic aficionado in one fell swoop, you might want to think about picking up some GelaSkins (http://gelaskins.com/). The company recently partnered with Marvel to create a series of skins that spotlight Iron Man, Spider Man and the X-Men, as well as some classic comic book covers from the vault.
Nox Headphones (http://www.nox-audio.com/) are the latest and greatest way to trip out to whatever is making your head spin right now (We’re partial to the Fang Island album, but that’s just us). There’s a volume control on the earpiece and a retractable microphone, making them a convenient way to experience high fidelity.
We can’t wait to listen to Daft Punk’s TRON: Legacy soundtrack on this glowing TRON iPod Dock created by Monster (http://www.monstercable.com/). Though the dock resembles the Identity Disks used to slice up opponents in the film, we highly recommend not using this as your own personal boomerang.
Now, this last item isn’t technically music-related, though the movie that inspired them did have a kickass soundtrack. These super limited edition Clerks shoes by Kevin Smith for etnies (http://etnies.com/) include a classic still of Jay and Silent Bob on their soles. Jokes about your mom sold separately. F
